Runaround Sue Vintage 2nd Annual Charity Vintage Fashion Show

Just saw the press release for Runaround Sue's 2nd Annual Vintage Fashion Show and had to share. Hope to see you guys at the show!

Sponsored by Holy City Brewery, Runaround Sue Vintage will host its second annual charity vintage fashion show on Sunday, February 17, 2013 at 8 pm at the Tin Roof. There is a $10 minimum charge at the door, although additional donations are welcome. Proceeds will once again benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Music by the V-Tones and the Flat Foot Floozies will wrap up the show, while the Roaring 20s Hot Jazz Club leads everyone in a lil bit-a rug-cuttin'.

Get there at 8! The first 50 early birds through the door will get a goody bag filled with gift cards and knickknacks from Charleston’s creative community and local businesses, including Al Di La, Carla Bakes, Lava Salon, and Spacecraft Studios.

Runway lights up at 9 p.m. sharp, and the catwalk show will last for roughly ten minutes—so this is also why you should get there early. Lava Salon’s Ashley Wagner and Spencer Barnhart are on hair and makeup. Clothes modeled will be for sale after the show. The show will also feature handmade Poof tutus by local designer, Katie Killham.

A selection of Holy City brews will be available for $3 a pop, and 100% of each sale will benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

There will also be a table set up for Be the Match (www.marrow.org) that will allow attendees to join the bone marrow registry right then and there, and maybe one day connect them with a lymphoma or leukemia patient in need of a life-saving bone marrow or umbilical cord transplant.

Last year’s event was held in honor of a dear friend fighting lymphoma. Despite the bravest fight possible, she recently lost her battle on September 27, 2012, and this will be an evening that celebrates both her love of life as well as her love of fashion and music.

Come out and support a good cause with some good music, good fashion, good beer, and good times. In the words of Hank Sr, dress in style and go hog wild!

Receive Something Pretty in the Mail Every Month

Lauren Amos Designs is now offering an earring subscription!

Here's how it works. You pick your length of subscription (3, 6, or 12 months) and pay $15 per month - paid in a lump sum, up front. Then ,at the beginning of each month, Lauren will send you a pair of her earrings.

This is a cool opportunity for you to try a variety of earrings; maybe you'll get something you wouldn't normally wear! All the earrings are valued at $15-25 (plus shipping).

Lauren says, "I've already sketched out several new designs to use throughout the year, but you might receive a pair of earrings that's currently listed in my shop or some variation of that design."

There's a special offer going on right now: all subscriptions purchased by Feb. 2nd will receive an extra *free* pair of earrings in your first month's shipment! The first shipment goes out on Monday, February 4th.

All subscriptions can be purchased through my online shop {www.laurenamosdesigns.etsy.com} under the "subscriptions" tab.

And what was that drink again?

Glühwein. Yep, glühwein. Pronounced glue-vine. I mentioned this in the last post on German Chriskindlmarkts. There are TONS of recipes on the internet for it, but here's the one I've been using, courtesy of Food.com. Super easy, super delicious:

3/4 cup water (or orange juice)
3/4 cup white sugar (or less to taste)
1 cinnamon stick
1 orange
10 whole cloves
1 (750 ml) bottle red wine
Directions:

Combine the water, sugar, and cinnamon stick in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer.

Cut the orange in half, and squeeze the juice into the simmering water (I did this through a strainer, since you don't want a lot of pulp or seeds).

Push the cloves into the outside of the orange peel, and place peel in the simmering water. Continue simmering for 30 minutes, until thick and syrupy.

Pour in the wine, and heat until steaming but not simmering. Remove the clove-studded orange halves.

Serve hot in mugs. Don't use glasses (will break)!

Much Overdue Notes from Germany

Michael and I were lucky enough to travel to Germany for vacation back in November. We were there over Thanksgiving and again, lucky enough to catch the beginning of their Chriskindlmarkts

I am in love. Handmade goods, food vendors, beverages, caroling ... kind of my thing. No bloody marys over there though. Just some amazing mulled wine, called glühwein.

Here are a few shots of how they host Markets in Munich and Heidelberg:

What to do with wine bottles ...

While we're talking wine, let's go all the way. You have ideas on what to do with corks, but what about the bottles? Rewined uses them for beautiful containers for their candles. Husk uses them for water glasses (you can even buy similar glasses at World Market).

Here are a couple fun things you can do with them:

And if you're feeling ambitious, try these wine bottle chandeliers:

What to do with wine corks ...

I recently saw these wine cork ornaments for sale (after Christmas, of course) and thought I should put together a little wine cork round up. SO many cool things you can do with these guys.
Pick these up locally from 4th Ave Gardens!

Plus, you don't have to buy your main supply: just drink wine! Although, it would take a ridiculous amount of time to drink this much wine:

Maybe just buy them in bulk ...

More cork projects here!

Best of Charleston

The Artist Market loves Charleston City Paper. They never fail to promote our event, the artists, the Music Farm shows, the food truck scene ... basically everything that is local and awesome. When I first moved here (5 years ago), City Paper was my go to resource for getting to know local restaurants, venues, and events.

So I always make sure to vote in their Best of. This is your chance to recognize your favorite bars, restaurants, actors, musicians, events, shops, and more. And being that the Artist Market is one of my favorite events in town, I was looking for a category that fits us. Party of the Year? It's fun, but not really a party. Best outdoor event? Not outside. Shopping center? We're not the mall  ... but I finally settled on:

Gift Store

I buy so many presents at the LAM, it made sense to me. If you'd like to support the LAM in Charleston City Paper's Best of, click the image below. Name all your Charleston favorites!
